Watch and pray. Jesus’ call to prayer is a serious exhortation, but not a religious exercise. He taught His disciples to pray with persistence, and not to quit short of the goal. It may seem that the art of a deeper corporate prayer life has been lost in this generation as prayer meetings are often under-attended and unsustainable. That may also be an indicator of the state of private prayer. In any case we are called to “pray without ceasing”, a pretty tall order.
